Ecological Footprint

At the client's request myclimate produces tailored environmental analyses. This category includes among other things the calculation of the ecological footprint. The ecological footprint is a measure of human demand on the Earth's ecosystems and was developed by Mathis Wackernagel and William Rees in the mid-1990s. It represents the area of the Earth which is required to support the lifestyle of a person or entire population groups in the long term under current production conditions. The figures are shown in global hectares per person per year. This footprint can be transferred accordingly to entire nations, continents and finally to the entire globe.

In recent years the resource capacity of the Earth for the entire year has usually been exceeded by August. This imbalance indicates that humanity is currently living far beyond its means.
