The three phases of a carbon offset project
Independent of the applicable project standard, all myclimate projects go through the three phases "planning", "implementation" and "operation". On the project pages (international projects or Swiss projects, respectively) you can see in which phase a project currently is.
Planning
A project goes into "planning" status as soon as the myclimate preparations have been completed. The project has been judged worthwhile and an agreement or statement of intent has been signed with the project partner. The Project Idea Note (PIN) and the outline of the PDD (Project Design Document) are available as project documentation.
Implementation
Project documentation is completed and the standard of the certificates decided upon: (VER or CER). The purchase agreement (also referred to as ERPA: Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement) is worked out and validation is started. The construction of the plant or the implementation of other measures is initiated.
Operation
Construction has been completed with the start of operations or the implementation of measures. Following the successful validation, the yearly reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is verified by an independent agency. Once verification is complete, myclimate purchases the certificates and transfers the offset payments. Each project is visited periodically by a myclimate employee for the duration of the project.
