myclimate goes for quality
myclimate supports carbon offset projects according to various standards. They all need to fulfil the same high requirements.
Application of the strictest international standards
myclimate carbon offset projects fulfil internationally recognized criteria based on the Kyoto Protocol. The projects are implemented according to the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) or as myclimate VER projects, based on the CDM procedures, criteria and methodology.
Only effective emission reductions
myclimate exclusively supports projects that directly reduce emissions. This includes the following categories: "renewable energy", "energy efficiency" and "reduction of methane emissions in combination with energy usage".
Verification of greenhouse gas reduction
The emission reductions achieved by myclimate carbon offset projects are recorded for the entire duration of the projects and verified by independent agencies.
Contribution to sustainable development
All myclimate carbon offset projects are required to make a positive contribution to sustainable development in their respective regions. All three dimensions of sustainability – environment, economy and society - need to be taken into account. Some of the positive sustainability effects are, for instance, the reduction of air and water pollution, the improvement of the quality of life of the local population, the transfer of knowledge and technology, and the creation of jobs. The sustainability criteria of the Gold Standard are regarded as guidelines for all myclimate carbon offset projects.
Experienced project partners
The project portfolio is carefully compiled and managed by myclimate. From a risk management perspective, myclimate values competent and experienced project partners who manage and follow the projects from a to z.
Independent monitoring
The carbon offset projects are always monitored by independent organisations. Current foreign projects are validated by UN-accredited monitoring agencies such as the SGS, TÜV or DNV. In Swiss projects, certification is undertaken by the same organisations or equivalent, recognised institutions. The emission reductions are verified annually by the monitoring agencies. This monitoring takes place during the entire duration of the projects.
Additionality
The principle of additionality is an integral part of the Kyoto Protocol and a key criterion for myclimate carbon offset projects. According to additionality, only the funds raised by the purchase of emission reductions through myclimate should make it possible for a given project to be implemented. Projects that would have been implemented anyway, or which would only have earned extra income through myclimate contributions, are not supported.
