Fascinating exhibition series at the Museum of Transport

In the Verkehrshaus, the Swiss Museum of Transport, the exhibition series “Traffic and the Environment” complements the existing exhibits concerning road, air and rail traffic with the aspect of sustainable development.

The Museum of Transport (Verkehrshaus) in Lucerne is a veritable Mecca for many children and people interested in transport; at the same time it is the most popular museum in Switzerland by visitor numbers. For some time now, visitors have also been exposed to the environmental effects of traffic and are discovering how to be mobile without damaging the climate. A new exhibition series offers visitors new insights concerning sustainability, while also enhancing existing knowledge.

The exhibition series "Traffic and the Environment" is split into three parts. In the Aviation and Space Travel Hall, several exhibits draw attention to the effects of air traffic on the environment. In the Road Traffic Hall, a large growth curve demonstrates the steady and unabated growth of car ownership in Switzerland and the resulting environmental costs. In the Rail Traffic exhibition, visitors can experience first-hand why the railroad uses the least amount of energy for travel.

The three exhibitions put together by myclimate are designed to encourage viewers to make their own contribution against climate change. Each and every Swiss man and woman produces 16kg of CO2 per day; this adds up to over 6 tons per year. One third of these emissions – two tons – are attributable to roads. It therefore pays to reconsider one's travel habits.
