Video conferences
The world has now shrunk to a global village. Modern tools such as the Internet connect people from around the world, without them having to travel. Despite all this, meetings and conferences are responsible for a large number of transport kilometres since around 40 percent of all flights are business flights.
Video conferences are a climate-friendly alternative for keeping in touch across large distances. A study by the "Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply" shows that a lot of money can be saved with video conferences (see table).
| From London to ... | Edinburgh | Frankfurt on the Main | Chicago | Sydney |
| 1 Person | 23% | 44% | 73% | 87% |
| 2 People | 54% | 65% | 85% | 91% |
| 3 People | 65% | 72% | 89% | 92% |
| 5 People | 73% | 77% | 92% | 94% |
| 10 People | 70% | 83% | 95% | 95% |

Of course video conferences cannot always be a substitute for business trips. They can, however, be an alternative, especially for routine meetings, and they will become more attractive as the technology further improves.
