Lutz Pfannenstiel is the only professional football player to have played on every continent over the course of his career. He left his mark on Germany, Canada, Indonesia, South Africa, England, Norway and the home of football, Brazil. His wide-ranging experience moved him to found the non-profit foundation Global United FC e.V. in 2009.

Global Football United is the world’s first club to commit to sustainable and social climate protection by deploying international football stars and the emotional vehicle “Football, the global sport”. 400 players, including World Cup winners such as Guido Buchwald (Germany 1990) and Jorginho (Brazil 1994) plus local football heroes such as Bachirou Salou (Togo), Jörg Stiel (Switzerland) and Jari Litmanen (Finland), are collaborating with Lutz Pfannenstiel to benefit climate protection and will be appearing for Global Football United FC.

myclimate supports Global Football United FC on multiple levels. In terms of content, myclimate will provide expertise in the fields of climate education, CO2 calculations and developing climate protection projects. myclimate will also be helping to organise the regular Global Football United events, such as the annual charity game in Namibia, so that they are climate-neutral. Both organisations have agreed to a partnership beginning in April 2014.

“myclimate is a partner to our team; a perfect partner with outstanding competency in all matters of climate protection as well as an enthusiasm for sport”, says Lutz Pfannenstiel. “Global Football United manages to motivate big names for a big goal. These players induce such excitement wherever they go that it helps embed awareness of climate protection on a broad scale”, says René Estermann, Managing Director of myclimate.
