Efficient use of funds

As a non-profit foundation, myclimate guarantees that at least 80 percent of offset payments will be put toward carbon offset projects. We apply the strictest quality standards to the carbon offset projects.

CO2 offsetting is only effective when a majority of offset payments is actually invested into carbon offset projects. myclimate guarantees that at least 80 percent of offset payments directly benefit the projects. This is a very high ratio in international comparison. The rest is used to cover the charitable organisation’s administrative and marketing costs.

Offsetting only through high-value carbon offset projects

Furthermore, only projects that comply with internationally recognised, high standards can contribute successfully to climate protection. This is why myclimate applies only the most rigorous quality standards (CDM and Gold Standard).

In addition to reducing greenhouse emissions, myclimate projects also make a demonstrable and positive contribution to sustainable development. In the project regions, jobs are created, knowledge is shared and the people's quality of life is improved.

Established and independent project partners

When implementing carbon offset projects, myclimate works closely with experienced and independent partners in the respective countries. These local partners ensure that the projects are implemented professionally and regularly check their effectiveness. Moreover, each project shall be visited at least once by a employee of myclimate. In addition, the carbon offset projects are audited annually by an independent external agency.

Actual emission reductions

The offset payments are paid to the supported projects after the reductions have been achieved. The amount paid depends on the actual reduction of climate-impacting emissions achieved by the projects. This means that myclimate clients only pay for emission reductions that have actually been achieved.

Somewhat deferred in comparison with income from donations, the primarily effectiveness-oriented and more careful implementation of donation proceeds is a particular myclimate sign of quality, as much as it is one of Swiss development organisations in general. Instead of the "instant watering-can principle", myclimate focuses on optimal climate protection results and sustainability, in keeping with the intentions of its donors.

In its support of these carbon offset projects, myclimate has a performance-based approach, i.e. through designated, actually achieved emissions reductions over a longer contract duration of 7 to 14 years. myclimate guarantees its clients that emission reductions that have been bought (= offset payment donations) are realised in carbon offset projects within two years and retired at the latest after three years.
