myclimate is a spin-off from the ETH Zurich
Being an ETH spin-off, myclimate benefits from synergies within a network of highly qualified experts in the areas of technology and methodology and combines science with economic viability.
A spin-off company of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) is a company that has grown out of the ETH, i.e. it is based on research by the ETH and draws on contributions by ETH employees and alumni. The renowned university supports the founding of companies so that research results can be turned into marketable products and new jobs are created. Because the beginning is generally the most difficult time for new companies, the university supports its spin-offs in their early phases through consultancy regarding financing and tax-related matters, helping with networking and offering them access to the ETH Zurich infrastructure.
Expertise and scientific basis
As an ETH spin-off, myclimate draws upon a wide network of scientific experts. For instance, the myclimate emission calculations are based on scientific facts established by the ETH Zurich and/or ecoinvent. The ecoinvent centre - the world's leading supplier of consistent and transparent life cycle inventory (LCI) data of known quality - offers science-based, industrial, international life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle management (LCM) data and services. ecoinvent is a specialist department of the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research EMPA. EMPA is part of the ETH domain and is a research institute that has a world-wide reputation for its development of new technologies and as an independent testing laboratory.
From 2009 onwards, with the expiry of the 5-year spin-off phase, myclimate is no longer able to benefit from the ETH infrastructure, but can still rely upon a broad network of experts.
