Schools for Climate Protection – myclimate Gives Support and Advice!

For many years, myclimate’s educational work has provided young people with information about climate change, climate protection and what they can do to make a difference. Against the background of climate strike movement, myclimate has offered a new format since autumn 2019: “Schools for Climate Protetction”. Through a systematic process for stimulating dialogue and by involving the relevant groups, myclimate wants to inspire schools to take concrete steps towards protecting the climate.

The "Climate Protection & Schools" programme inspires students to take concrete steps towards climate protection.

myclimate education has developped a new format: “Schools for Climate Protection”. With this new format, myclimate is offering a solution to the dilemma and the lack of orientation that schools, pupils, teaching staff and parents find themselves exposed to when faced with the issue of climate change and the resulting climate strikes.

In the past year, teenagers and young adults have taken courageous, reflective and fact-based action for their future, something over which currently they in particular have little influence. After all, the power to implement crucial CO₂ saving measures lies not in their hands, but in those of today’s decision makers in business and politics.

Young people have used and continue to use the strikes to make their voices heard and in so doing refuse one of their primary obligations – to attend school. myclimate is offering a new format “Schools for Climate Protection” to bridge the resulting conflict and uncertainty.

“Schools for Climate Protection” – content

Through a systematic process for stimulating dialogue and by involving the various relevant stakeholders, myclimate wants to inspire schools to take concrete steps towards protecting the climate. The first step towards this is pupils, school administrations, those responsible for running the canteen, caretakers and even parents coming together. In a second step, concrete measures for climate protection and sustainability are developed in large workshops. The main goal of this project is to encourage young people to harness the options available to them within our democratic system and to take on responsibility.

Do you have children who would like to do more for climate protection at their school? Are you part of the parents’ association? Or perhaps you work at a school and would be happy to address the topic of climate protection & schools? Please, get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you!

This project is being run with support from the Mercator and Wegweiser foundations.
