Dr. Roger Baud passes the baton. The long-time director of ETHsustainability hands the reins of the YES courses (youth encounter on sustainability) over to myclimate on 1. January 2014. Since 2000, YES has brought together more than 1,500 students and young professionals from 140 countries for 41 courses in 12 countries to exchange views on issues regarding sustainability. myclimate has come full circle.
In 2002, students in one YES course came up with the idea to voluntarily offset CO₂ emissions. This idea led to the creation of myclimate. "YES is a motivating and inspiring platform. We’re proud to take over and continue to develop this great project," said Dominik Mösching, in project director at myclimate. Roger Baud, the "father of the YES courses", looks confidently toward the future: "I am happy that this project is staying in the YES family. With its competence and broad set of skills, myclimate will set new standards as a strong partner."
The yes courses were offered for the first time in 2000. The aim was to provide young people from all over the world with a platform for exchanging knowledge and experience in the field of sustainability, and to develop new projects and initiatives. Conceived as a global network of students and young professionals, YES places equal emphasis on the continuing exchange of ideas among its alumni.
Together with myclimate, Zurich Tourism has pledged its support for YES as another strong partner. In order to allow many people the possibility to participate in the annual course in Zurich, Zurich Tourism (the first climate neutral tourism organisation in Switzerland) is activating its network and providing concrete logistical support.
The first YES course run by myclimate will take place in January 2014 in Naivasha, Kenya. Those who are interested can still register.
