Offsetting is a way to take responsibility for the emissions that aren’t included in the cost of a travel ticket or in the price of petrol. For many years now it has been normal to pay for waste water or refuse collection services, but for greenhouse gas emissions, the principal of "the polluter pays" is still missing. This means the only way to compensate for the damage we cause is through voluntary offsetting.
