On the morning of 19 July, more than 2,500 athletes from more than 60 countries will enter the competition. For the first time ever, the “Community Reforestation in Nicaragua”.

“IRONMAN Switzerland AG is very proud to be working with myclimate to help IRONMAN Zurich Switzerland grow sustainably and to make a contribution to climate protection,” said Manuel Orth, spokesman for IRONMAN Switzerland AG.

Climate neutrality rounds off IRONMAN Zurich Switzerland’s comprehensive sustainability package. The organisers are using 100% green energy. As far as possible the suppliers are all local, including the food provided for catering. As part of the waste management concept (recycling and separation), there will be a deposit taken for all tableware and cups, whether they are made of PET, glass or aluminium. In addition, there will be special soil protection structures provided along the most popular stretches such as the starting line at the lake, the transition area and the finish line.

The competition in Zurich is a prestigious event for pros. This year as well, anyone who wants to climb to the top of the winner’s podium has to get past two giants in the triathlon world: Mary Beth Ellis (reigning long-distance world champion from the USA) and local hero Ronnie Schildknecht (7-time IRONMAN Zurich Switzerland winner (2007-2013) will be trying to add another win to their impressive records. Many amateur participants have another, equally spectacular goal: IRONMAN Zurich Switzerland will be giving a total of 50 people the eligibility to compete at the Mecca of long-distance triathletes, IRONMAN Hawaii.

More than 1,000 volunteers will guarantee that things go smoothly for the participants and fans. There’s an exciting entertainment programme lined up for visitors this year including refreshments, a large sport expo, an all-day supervised kids paradise featuring a bouncy castle, a fan corner and much more.
