Freestyle Spectacle – Anniversary – Climate-Neutral

On the weekend of 27/28 September, freestyle.ch, Europe’s largest action sports festival, thrilled thousands of visitors to Landiwiese. A partnership with myclimate has existed for years, and was continued for the 20th edition.

myclimate. At the weekend, some of the world’s best athletes in the disciplines of snowboard big air, ski freestyle, FMX and mountain biking once again came together on Zurich’s Landiwiese.

For the snowboarders, including Olympic champion Iouri Podladtchikov, and freeskiers, freestyle.ch represents the start to the new winter season. To mark the anniversary of the event, the organisers were able to bring a mix of international stars and the best Swiss talent to the starting line. The infrastructure was again impressive: 235 tonnes of snow, the giant ramp (32 m high, 100 m long) and 280 m3 of the dirtiest earth for the dirt jump were just three obvious attractions that awaited the 30,000 visitors.

To gauge what an event of this scale requires in terms of energy and resources and hence causes in CO₂ emissions, the makers of freestyle.ch once again collaborated with myclimate. All emissions calculated that lie within the sphere of responsibility of the event organisers were offset in the project “Hydropower on West Sumatra, Indonesia”.

In addition, freestyle.ch explicitly encouraged visitors to arrive by public transport, bike or on foot.
