Sustainable cocoa

myclimate is an official member of the Swiss platform for sustainable cocoa, which was newly founded in January 2018. The joint initiative of the private sector, the public sector, civil society and research institutions is dedicated to promoting a sustainable cocoa value chain and pursues ambitious sustainability goals. myclimate participates in two working groups.

It pursues the ambitious goal that by 2025 at least 80% of the cocoa-containing products imported into Switzerland will come from sustainable cultivation. Thanks to years of cooperation with customers in the chocolate sector and the development of a chocolate industry solution, myclimate has the expertise to play a decisive role in the successful achievement of the association's goals.

"We want to motivate members to reduce their carbon footprint along the entire cocoa value chain. This enables an entire industry and its suppliers to make a concrete contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (e.g. SDG 13 Climate Action) and the implementation of the Silvana Comino, expert for "Landuse and Forestry" at myclimate.

In addition, myclimate also offers support in "SDG monitoring and reporting". myclimate is active both in strategic consulting and in the concrete measurement of the effects of strategic changes with regard to SDGs with its own software solutions. myclimate is currently participating in the two working groups "Climate resilience and biodiversity" and "Innovative financing instruments". In the working groups, myclimate works together with representatives of the University of Berne, Max Havelaar, Chocolats Halba/Sunray, the Lindt Foundation and Helvetas, among others. So far, the short, medium and long-term goals on which the Group will work within the next few months have been defined. Particular attention has been paid to instruments such as a guideline for formulating a deforestation policy at company level, which could later be shared with the members of the Platform.

Swiss Platform for Sustainable Cocoa

The Swiss Platform for Sustainable Cocoa maintains a dialogue with the actors involved, sets common goals and develops solutions for the challenges in the production and procurement of sustainable cocoa. The cocoa platform promotes joint, innovative projects for a sustainable cocoa value chain. It coordinates its activities internationally. The platform also sees itself as an information and competence centre and dialogue forum for cocoa that incorporates international experience.
