Hotelplan Suisse has worked with myclimate and committed itself to sustainable and active climate protection since 2006. This enables Hotelplan Suisse customers to compensate for their flight emissions directly in travel agencies or when making online bookings. In addition, all of the Swiss tour operator’s business flights have been climate-neutral since the start of the partnership. And that’s not all: in 2015, Hotelplan Suisse will be the official travel partner of the myclimate YES course, which will be conducted in Switzerland.
The travel industry contributes to the emission of greenhouse gases around the world. As developing countries and thus important tourism destinations are very severely affected by the effects of climate change, Hotelplan Suisse has decided to increase its commitment to climate protection. As an important partner of myclimate, Hotelplan Suisse has already offered customers the opportunity to voluntarily compensate for flights since 2007. Moreover, the Swiss tour operator compensates for all of its own flight emissions in myclimate climate protection projects.
That this type of involvement does not result in a competitive disadvantage is clearly shown by the current figures from Hotelplan Suisse. Sustainability is not a phenomenon but rather a trend in the travel industry. As the considerable increase in the sale of CO2 compensation by Hotelplan Suisse reveals, the offer is well received by customers.
For its extensive commitment, Hotelplan Suisse was awarded the myclimate award in the category of “Sustainable travel” at the ITB tourism trade fair in Berlin in 2014. The Swiss operator has systematically and consummately integrated CO2 compensation into its consultancy work, which has helped it achieve significant growth rates.
Hotelplan Suisse is currently supporting the climate protection project “Electricity from FSC Woodchips in Itacoatiara, Brazil”. “It is a win-win situation. Wood scraps that would previously have rotted and produced methane gas are now used to create environmentally friendly electricity and additional workplaces,” says Anja Dobes, Head of Sustainability at Hotelplan Suisse, who visited the project in February 2014.
In 2015, the tour operator will expand its partnership with myclimate by becoming the official travel partner of the Swiss YES course.
