"Bertrand Piccard is an exceptional personality: a visionary and one of the world's most prominent and inspiring ambassadors for renewable energies and a clean future. We feel honoured that Bertrand Piccard supports myclimate with concrete actions, such as the complete compensation of his circumnavigation of the globe in the Solar Impulse," says myclimate Managing Director René Estermann.
On behalf of "Solar energy for education and jobs" in Tanzania, "Solar power plant replaces fossil energy" in the Dominican Republic and "Efficient rocket barns help cut wood consumption" in Malawi.
Bertrand Piccard is also ambassador of the initiative “Energie- und Klimapioniere”. The initiative was launched in 2010 by Swisscom with the partner organisations Energie Schweiz, Solar Impulse and myclimate. It has now reached and activated more than 18,000 school children from kindergarten to high school having motivated them to carry out their own local climate protection projects.
World Alliance for Efficient Solutions
"The flight around the world – of which we effectively and by conviction compensated all of our C02 footprint with myclimate – was only the first part of my vision that clean and efficient technologies can achieve impossible goals; the second is the World Alliance for Efficient Solutions that was launched end of last year with the goal of collecting 1'000 profitable solutions to protect the environment” emphasized Bertrand Piccard, initiator and pilot of Solar Impulse and chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation.
“I became a member of the myclimate patronage committee, in order to continue working together towards the common goal of climate protection. The world today needs concrete solutions that can mitigate climate risks and contribute to sustainable development worldwide. myclimate offers a practical tool to take effective action, both globally and locally,” he added.
Indeed, Bertrand Piccard presented a new project called the "World Alliance for Efficient Solutions" at the World Climate Conference in Marrakesh in November 2016. Hundreds of companies, from "global players" to start-ups, who use innovative and profitable solutions, are becoming members of this alliance, driving a clean, emission-free future.
The myclimate Patronage Committee is made up of well-known personalities, who support the work of the foundation ideally and demand strong efforts for climate protection. Bertrand Piccard is joining amongst others Dr. Claude Marti (former director of WWF International), Prof. Ernst Ulrich von Weizäcker, Dr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency IEA, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Prof. Muhammed Yunus or the Federal President and Head of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), Doris Leuthard in the myclimate patronage comittee.
