Sustainability in the travel industry is booming

The travel industry is an important partner when it comes to reducing emissions by hard work and taking on responsibility. That this type of involvement does not result in a competitive disadvantage is clearly shown by the current key figures from Hotelplan Suisse.

Sustainability is not a phenomenon, but rather a trend in the travel industry. The clear increase in sales of sustainable travel products in 2012 by Hotelplan Suisse is indicative of this fact.

Sales of the "climate ticket" for air travel, created in cooperation with myclimate, increased by approximately 40%. This means that 6,579 tonnes of CO2 were offset last year by Hotelplan Suisse customers – 1,815 tonnes more than the previous year. "The possibility of compensation even a part of the CO₂ emissions is the ideal solution for many customers who wish to make a contribution to the environment but still stay within their holiday budget", states Thomas Stirnimann, CEO of the Hotelplan Group.

Another example of the company's sustainability efforts is that internal business flights of all staff members have been offset since 2006. Hotelplan Suisse has supported the myclimate climate protection project "Electricity from FSC Woodchips in Itacoatiara, Brazil" since 2011, which entails promoting the transition from diesel to climate-friendly FSC woodchips for the production of electricity.
