Accessibility Statement

The Foundation myclimate – The Climate Protection Partnership, myclimate Deutschland gGmbH and myclimate Österreich gGmbH are committed to making their websites accessible to all people. In doing so, we are guided by the legislation implementing Directive (EU) 2019/882 of the European Parliament and of the Council:

  • The Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) in Germany.
  • The Accessibility Act (BaFG) in Austria.

This Accessibility Statement applies to the websites www.myclimate.org, co2.myclimate.org, germany.myclimate.org and austria.myclimate.org.

State of compliance with the requirements

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) help designers and developers to make digital content accessible. They distinguish between three levels of conformance:  A (basic), AA (advanced) and AAA (highest level). myclimate is based on the international standard WCAG 2.2 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) at conformance level AA. We are currently meeting some of these requirements and are actively working with an interdisciplinary team to continuously improve digital accessibility.

Non-accessible content:

The following content is currently not accessible for the following reasons:

Incompatibility with the Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) in Germany or the Accessibility Act (BaFG) in Austria

  • Images without alternative text: some pictures on the website have no alternative text. We review and update this content on an ongoing basis.

  • The HTML markup still contains errors that can cause problems when using assistive technologies (e.g. screen readers):

    • The heading structure (h1–h6) currently does not follow a clear, logical, hierarchical allocation in all cases. In order to be accessible across the board, we need to adapt our design and font sizes and make the heading structure more clear, logical and hierarchical. These improvements require more extensive technical and design adaptations to our website. We are currently examining to what extent and in what timeframe we can implement these changes.

    • Not all HTML elements of the interface have a programmatic name or role.

    • The IDs are not consistently unique.

    • Not all elements have full start and end tags. Some elements have duplicate attributes.

  • Some web pages contain links with identical link text that lead to different destinations.
  • The current text contrast requirements have not yet been fully implemented on our website. Particularly in the case of large image areas, known as hero images (large banner images at the top of the page), some text-image combinations do not yet meet accessibility standards. The blue hue (#189dd9) that we currently use does not meet the requirements for sufficient contrast for smaller font sizes up to 18.5 px. Font sizes greater than 18.5 px are generally not affected.
  • The PDF documents we provide are currently not barrier-free. We are currently examining how future PDF files can be made accessible and published in order to meet the requirements of digital accessibility.

We are working on the necessary adaptations to make this content accessible to you in the near future.

Content that does not fall within the scope of the applicable legislation

The following embedded forms and tools originate from external providers and are not under our full editorial control. They therefore do not fall within the scope of the Accessibility Act:

  • Microsoft Forms and Typeform (contact forms)
  • ActiveCampaign (e.g. for newsletter subscriptions)
  • Dualoo (e.g. for application forms in the recruitment process)
  • RaiseNow (e.g. for donation forms)

We integrate this third-party content into our website and have limited influence over the technical limitations and restrictions of the respective tools. In some cases, this can lead to barriers, such as insufficient keyboard usability, or incompatibility with screen readers or other assistive technologies.

Accessible alternatives: alternatively, if you are unable to use the above forms, you can contact us directly by email or phone at any time.

Barriers due to economic unreasonability

Older content that was created prior to the current accessibility guidelines entering into force may not be fully accessible. A subsequent complete adaptation of this content would require disproportionately high costs. However, new content is created strictly according to the current standards.

Our commitment to digital accessibility

For us, accessibility is more than just a legal requirement – it is a key component of our digital responsibility. That’s why we’ve put together an interdisciplinary team comprising design, development and online marketing experts that addresses the issue of accessibility internally in a targeted and committed manner in order to continuously align the existing content with the latest standards.

Creation of this Accessibility Statement

This statement was issued by myclimate employees on 5 June 2025.
(Last updated: 23 June 2025)
The conformity of this website with the Accessibility Act – to implement the requirements of EU Directive 2016/2102 – has been assessed by internal audits. These tests were carried out between March and June 2025.
