myclimate launches sixth Swiss carbon offset project

Fighting climate change at global and local level: our local commitment is now one location richer. Ticino is home to the newest Swiss domestic project to replace fossil energy sources with biomass.

myclimate has been a pioneer in developing high-quality climate protection projects in Switzerland since 2007. These projects focus on the voluntary and obligatory compensation markets in Switzerland. All projects are audited externally and they have all fulfilled the strict guidelines of the Federal Office for the Environment ("Wood Chips Replace Fossil Fuel in Losone" is the sixth Swiss project in myclimate’s portfolio.

The wood shavings heating plant and its associated heat distribution system provides schools, industrial enterprises, hotels and multiple- and single-family homes in the <link www.losone.ch - external-link>municipality of Losone in Ticino</link> with heat from renewable energy to heat rooms and for sanitary purposes throughout the year. The wood shavings heating plant, which is operated using local biomass, replaces existing heating systems based on fossil fuel and will thus lead to a reduction in CO₂ emissions.

The project is being carried out in line with the quality guidelines of Holzenergie Schweiz (Wood Energy Switzerland). This project is being realised by<link www.erl-sa.ch/idea.html - external-link> Energie Rinnovabili Losone SA</link> (ERL), which is represented by the political municipality of Losone, the Losone citizens’ community and the energy provider<link www.ses.ch - external-link> Società Elettrica Sopracenerina</link>. The support from myclimate enables the project to offer its customers a price for heating that is competitive with the prices for heat from fossil fuel.

myclimate provides support for the project development as well as the purchase and sale of official certificates (reduction certificates within the country). myclimate advises project owners on the feasibility, development, implementation and monitoring of their climate protection projects.
