Hot Stuff Day Exhibit presents sustainable design

Zurich-Noerd is an extremely relaxing, inspiring place. That's why the myclimate education team chose this exact location to connect young Swiss designers and – by means of online media – designers from Kenya and their "hot" products.

On May 22, the Hot Stuff Day exhibit presented sustainable designs from Swiss and Kenyan students and was enthusiastically received by visitors to Zurich-Noerd, the creative home of <link www.freitag.ch/noerd - external-link-new-window>FREITAG</link> and <link www.aroma.ch/home.html - external-link-new-window>AROMA</link>. Initiated by <link hotstuffclimatenet.org - external-link-new-window>Hot Stuff Climate Net</link>, an education project of myclimate, approximately 100 students and teachers discussed the inspiring ideas behind the exhibited items, both onsite and online with their colleagues in Kenya.

The Photo-Puzzle created by the students of the School of Design (Zurich) was awarded the "Best Project" prize. Products from a wide range of sectors inspired the visitors: second-hand clothing, necklaces and bracelets made of paper and cans, video and photographic presentations, self-made cakes and cardboard chairs. An assortment of materials and their metamorphoses into new usable items effectively demonstrated the innovative spirit and the creativity of the young designers.

Some items from a partner class in Kenya were also displayed. Students from the Njoro Girls School in Nakuru gathered to participate in the exhibit via Facebook, Skype and telephone. This intercultural exchange is a key part of Hot Stuff Climate Net. "Just the opportunity to communicate with young people from across the world on a regular basis makes you very aware of how small our world actually is, and how much impact we have on one another", says a Swiss student about the idea behind the network.
