The Swiss Support Programme for the Replacement of Fossil Fuel Heating Systems in Greenhouses has established itself as a key tool for a sustainable energy transition in the greenhouse industry. 109 companies have already registered for the programme since its launch in 2020. Many of them are planning to launch their heating projects in the coming years. Thanks to programme’s recent validation and successful registration with the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), it will continue to run through the end of 2030.
The support covers not only the replacement of climate-damaging fossil fuels such as natural gas, heating oil or propane gas through the installation of heat pumps, wood-fired heating systems or connection to district heating networks, but also the newly supported pyrolysis heating systems.
With an average annual financial grant of CHF 30,000 per hectare until the end of 2030, the programme offers a unique opportunity to reduce operating costs while making a significant contribution to sustainability. To date, 12 companies have already put their renewable heating systems into operation, and a further 47 have completed their concept studies. A concept study determines the most suitable heating system and the type of support contract to be issued.
