A vocal advocate for myclimate – Fatih Birol new member of our Patronage Committee

He is known for sharp analysis and plain speaking. Dr. Fatih Birol, director of the International Energy Agency, numbers among the most prominent supporters of myclimate, along with Muhammed Yunus, Ernst Ulrich von Weizäcker and Doris Leuthard.

Since September the Turkish economist Dr. Fatih Birol has been the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA). As longstanding Chief Economist of the IEA, he succeeds Maria van der Hoeven to the post of Executive Director. Almost simultaneously Fatih Birol has also joined the myclimate Patronage Committee and supports the ideals of climate protection.

Fatih Birol never tires of emphasising the urgency of implementing measures for a climate-conscious world economy. Shorty after his start as the IEA Executive Director, he spoke candidly in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung: “Climate change is a threat to all of our lives…We must decarbonise our energy system in the near future”. The factor of time plays a decisive role for Birol, which is why he explicitly welcomes myclimates’s approach taking pragmatic and immediate steps to protect our climate.

The myclimate Patronage Committee is a collection of well known personalities, who share the ideals of the foundation and promote climate protection measures. Among others, the Nobel Peace Prize winner Prof. Muhammed Yunus, the former Director of the WWF Dr. Claude Marti, Prof. Ernst Ulrich von Weizäcker and the Federal Councillor and Chairwoman of the Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU) Doris Leuthard lend their voices to myclimate.
