Sunstar further reduces emissions

Swiss hotel chain Sunstar managed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions during financial year 2011/12 by another 7 per cent per overnight stay. The rest will be offset with myclimate.

Sunstar, the world’s first completely climate neutral hotel chain, has further reduced its emissions by 7 per cent per overnight stay in the financial year 2011-12. Compared to the financial year 2007-08, a reduction of even 32 per cent could be achieved. For many years, the company has paid attention to sustainability and is first of all keen to reduce its emissions and secondly to offset the inevitable rest with myclimate. Like this, Sunstar guarantees its customers a climate neutral stay without any extra charge. Sunstar names as main reasons for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions significant investments in new district heating connections in Grindelwald and Lenzerheide (wood chip heating), the acquisition of new pellet heating systems in Klosters and Davos as well as the installation of new techniques in several hotels (reduction in refrigerants). Furthermore, the company buys all its energy from renewable sources.
