Following successful Company Challenges, namely with Emmi, Griesser, Valiant and Swiss Post, among others, myclimate has developed and modularised the format. It enables myclimate to support those in charge of vocational training and sustainability to arm apprentices with the important capabilities they need for the future, and at the same time to anchor climate protection among the workforce. The core of the programme remains the same: Apprentices gain basic knowledge and skills for climate protection by implementing a project of their own in the company where they are training.
“Greening” needed in all professions
The path to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions will markedly influence the careers of today’s apprentices. If they are motivated and empowered to derive solutions from problems and to turn thought into action, then they are not merely affected, but rather are active players. All professions require “greening” in fact, since successful climate solutions are based on the abilities of a huge variety of skilled professions.
The Vocational Training Act already cites competence in sustainable development as one of the core tasks of vocational training. What’s more, the training plans for more and more professions now include specific learning objectives for environmental protection and sustainability. The complexity of climate issues does mean, however, that the development of corresponding skills in day-to-day work presents certain challenges to those responsible within companies.
