Once activated by the user, the CO2 indicator in the Deutsche Bank app uses an algorithm to calculate the individual CO2 emissions without having to enter any extra data. The calculation is based on the account and credit card transactions of the customers. Thus, all data remain in the bank. In the upper part of the screen, the total value of the current month is displayed. In addition, the categories with the highest CO2 emissions are visible - such as housing, mobility or food. The display can be further refined, for example using the function "Assign uncategorised expenses" or by voluntarily answering questions about energy consumption and nutritional behaviour. The CO2 emissions can be displayed monthly and six months retrospectively. Currently, the indicator is available in the version of the app for the iOS operating system.
Since its launch in December 2020, more than 100,000 customers have already activated the CO2 indicator in the Deutsche Bank mobile app. The monthly carbon footprint has already been calculated more than 500,000 times. By the end of the year, the bank wants to convince 250,000 customers of the benefits of the tool.
