myclimate, UNDP, the Ministry of Environment of Peru, Gold Standard and the Swiss Chamber of Commerce organised a workshop on Social Carbon Finance in Lima, Peru, on February 23rd, 2011. The special invitee to the event was Mr. Ivan Hernandez, Regional Manager for the Gold Standard in Latin America. The Gold Standard is the label for quality in the voluntary carbon offset market, established by independent NGOs like the WWF. The panelists presented on new alternatives for the development of carbon projects in Peru inclusing the Gold Standard and PoA schemes, and also discussed on how to develop climate protection projects with social benefits. The audience of approximately 80 people included representatives from the private sector (mining, finshing, agroindustrial sectors), representatives from the public sector, NGOs, carbon project developers, carbon project consultants, amongst others.
