Our advisory services on the VSME (voluntary standard for non-listed micro, small and medium enterprises) support you with voluntary sustainability reporting. Our expertise helps you to optimise value chains and make processes more sustainable. You will also gain the knowledge and data you need to help your company contribute to a decarbonised, sustainable economy.
The modular structure (Basic and Comprehensive modules) allows flexible implementation in several stages – depending on the company-specific progress and the resource situation.
VSME creates trust through transparency for your stakeholders – while remaining practicable for your company. This strengthens your competitive position.
It makes it easier for you to get started with sustainability reporting with significantly less effort than with the ESRS.
VSME stands for voluntary standard for non-listed micro, small and medium enterprises. It was developed by EFRAG and published in December 2024. It was originally intended for companies that did not fall under the CSRD reporting obligation but nevertheless wanted to communicate their sustainability performance. The VSME has a significantly smaller scope and therefore requires significantly fewer resources from the companies. This information can then be used by different stakeholders, such as banks and investors. This means that their queries can be answered easily.
The omnibus package has given the VSME a real attention boost. The VSME is recommended to companies that are not (or no longer) required to report, because the VSME is intended to serve as a protective shield. This means that the only information that can be requested from non-reporting companies is information that is required by the VSME. The intention is that non-reporting companies will be asked for data according to a uniform standard and will not have to answer as many inconsistent queries as before.
The VSME is divided into two modules – the Basic Module and the Comprehensive Module. The Comprehensive Module builds on the Basic Module. Thus, the Comprehensive Module cannot be used without the Basic Module. The modules are subdivided into general information and information relating to the various ESG areas.
