The new regulation forms part of the implementation of the Swiss CO2 Act. As well as airlines, it also applies to tour operators and travel agencies offering flights from Switzerland. For the industry, this means that the calculation methods used must in future comply with specified legal requirements and parameters. Travel and flight providers are therefore well advised to check now whether their current solution is based on a methodology that complies with regulations.
The Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) and the Swiss Travel Association (SRV) provide important guidance in this regard: the FOEN has confirmed that the calculation methods used by the myclimate flight calculator meet the requirements of the new legal provisions. At the same time, myclimate is listed and recommended by the SRV as one of the solutions for calculating flight emissions in connection with the implementation of the new CO₂ disclosure requirements.
This means that travel and flight providers already have a reliable basis at their disposal today to meet the transparency requirements coming into force from 2027. Furthermore, providers can offer their customers the opportunity to support high quality climate protection projects and to play an active role in climate protection.

For more than twenty years, those interested in climate protection have been able to use the co2.myclimate.org platform to calculate the impact on the climate of air travel (and other activities) free of charge and, if they wish, to arrange financing for climate protection projects to the same extent.
The platform complies with the European standard for transport (DIN) EN16258 and is updated by myclimate at regular intervals.
The myclimate experts base their work on the latest research and available data. The current version covers not only kerosene combustion but also upstream emissions and infrastructure emissions. Furthermore, the selection of seat classes and details of aircraft types help to refine the results. The myclimate flight calculator also takes into account short-term effects caused by so-called non-CO₂ emissions.
