Durable CO2 Removals

In order to neutralise unabatable residual emissions, durable CO₂ removal through carbon capture and storage over centuries to millennia is essential. Such projects form the final building block for credible net-zero roadmaps.

Capturing CO₂ in the long term: Scientifically sound and practical

Durable CO₂ removals rely on geological, mineral or technological storage systems. In its scenarios, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) emphasises: Without durable CO₂ removals, net zero targets cannot be achieved, especially where emissions are technically or economically hard to avoid both now and in the future.

myclimate focuses on projects that combine high durability with practical feasibility, low technological risk and added environmental benefits. One example is the use of biochar: It is produced from biomass such as waste wood or crop residues. It binds carbon over centuries while simultaneously improving soil fertility, crop yields and water storage capacity.

For companies, the use of such solutions means maximum climate integrity, long-term responsibility and a strong contribution to neutralising unabatable emissions with tangible added benefits.

Durable removal is not a substitute for reduction, but a necessary final step on the way to net zero.

The key benefits at a glance

Ensures long-term impact
Carbon is stably bound over hundreds to thousands of years – verifiable permanence.

Indispensable for net zero
Durable CO2 removal is necessary in order to credibly neutralise unabatable residual emissions.

Scientifically recognised
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change sees and names durable removals as a key component of all net-zero scenarios.

By producing biochar, we convert agricultural waste into long-term climate and economic benefits. We durably remove CO₂ from the atmosphere, improve soil health and increase the productivity of our farmers with materials that would otherwise be considered waste. In this way, we are strengthening today’s agriculture and laying the foundations for a climate-resilient future.
