Strategic Carbon Portfolio Management

myclimate supports you on your journey to net zero with a portfolio of projects both within and outside your value chain.

To achieve both business and environmental success on the path to net zero, you need a clear plan tailored to your needs. You also need a strategically structured portfolio of high-quality climate protection projects that evolves in line with your company’s requirements and scientific standards. myclimate offers you exactly that: advice and support for a portfolio that is credible, effective and sustainable, and which therefore complies with the guidelines and recommendations of the leading quality assurance bodies in climate protection, such as the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Three stages for your net-zero portfolio:

1. Take immediate action and take responsibility – through carbon reduction projects

Timeframe: From now until 2030 (decreasing thereafter)

  • What?
Invest in projects that are already demonstrably and immediately avoiding or reducing emissions, e.g. efficient cooking stoves, renewable energy, the rewetting of peatlands or climate-adapted forest management.

  • Why?
These projects are immediately available, cost-effective and offer diverse and tangible additional benefits (co-benefits) for the environment and society. Last but not least, they are directly linked to your company’s own value chain and can make it significantly more resilient.

  • How does this benefit your company?
You take direct responsibility for existing emissions and demonstrate commitment throughout your value chain and beyond (ongoing emissions responsibility).

2. Build
a portfolio – with nature-based removals

Timeframe: From now until 2040 (and beyond)

  • What?
Start building a carbon removal portfolio, e.g. afforestation, agroforestry, bio-based building materials or blue carbon.

  • Why?
These projects are affordable today, highly scalable and offer significant co-benefits. CO₂ sequestration is measurable and long-term, but not permanent according to net-zero criteria.

  • How does this benefit your company?
You’ll be paving the way towards permanent carbon neutrality, creating a significant and valuable impact, and thereby strengthening your sustainability communications and positioning.

3. Neutralise in the long term – through permanent removals

Timeframe: 2030–2050 (increasing in line with residual emissions)

  • What?
Evaluate and gradually scale up projects with high permanence, such as biochar, enhanced rock weathering or direct air capture.

  • Why?
Permanent removals can fully neutralise remaining unavoidable emissions in line with the recommended guidelines.

  • How does your company benefit?
You will meet regulatory requirements (e.g. SBTi, EU CRCF, Swiss CO₂ Act) and, with the right timeframe, secure your net-zero targets in the long term.
