Dear reader,

Courage: you don’t need it when everything’s going fine. But when conditions change, certainties waver and there are decisions to be made in uncertain times – that’s when it counts. For myclimate, 2025 was a year for courage.  

We matured. We became leaner and more focused.  

And we’re ready.

For us, maturity means taking responsibility, creating clarity and reducing complexity while remaining open to different perspectives. In an environment marked by regulatory changes, economic restraint and perceptible fatigue in public climate discourse, we made decisions that were not easy, but necessary. We put them into action prudently, fairly and with a view to the future. Today, they form the foundation for ensuring that myclimate remains effective, credible and successful in the future.

* myclimate changed its accounting guidelines as of 1 January 2023 (see 2024 Consolidated Financial Statements). Since then, revenueS haVE only been recognised once a service has been provided to the customer and the certificates sold in connection with that service were held by the foundation at that time.
As at 31 December 2025, CHF 5.8 million was therefore deferred as prepayments from customers. Including these deferrals, revenue for 2025 would amount to CHF 43.3 million, and CHF 45.8 million for the previous year.

SDG impact reporting

Climate Protection: More than just CO₂ Reduction

myclimate has developed and supported about 240 climate protection projects in a total of 48 countries around the world since its foundation in 2002. myclimate’s climate protection projects not only avoid or sequester CO₂, they also contribute to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We measure this impact and present it transparently using key figures. To date, more than 12.2 million people have benefited from the measures, and more than 366,000 people have been trained in climate protection projects. The following figures show the key areas of impact from this reporting from the beginning of 2002 to the end of 2025.

How much CO₂ has myclimate Avoided?

In 2025, companies and private individuals took responsibility for 2,359,617 tonnes (which corresponds to almost 5.78 % of Switzerland’s domestic emissions in 2023). At the same time, myclimate projects generated 2,934,138 tonnes in certified CO₂ emission reductions. Since myclimate was founded, a total of over 25.8 million tonnes of carbon have thus been reduced. Since the decommissioning of emissions certificates can take place at different times, any surpluses in emissions reductions are used for past and future years.

Developments in 2025

For myclimate, 2025 was a year of important strategic decisions and structural development both internally and externally. At the European level, climate policy is on a new track that will fundamentally change the CO₂ markets and the use of emission certificates. With the new EU climate target for 2040 and the planned option of fulfilling emission targets in part through international climate protection projects, the demand for high-quality certificates is growing rapidly – with a noticeable impact on availability, prices and market mechanisms.  

In this context, we have reaffirmed our clear commitment to quality and integrity, and we have already aligned our climate protection projects with the Core Carbon Principles to further boost trust and credibility in the voluntary carbon market.  

At the same time, we have systematically restructured our organisation to ensure efficiency, stability and future viability, and to provide effective support for companies on their path to net zero – even as conditions tighten.  

And with the successful deployment of the myclimate EcoCloud, we established a central platform for CO₂ management and climate strategy that helps companies manage their emissions, targets and measures transparently, consistently and in accordance with recognised standards.

Partners

Climate protection is effective when companies take responsibility and implement concrete changes. In 2025, we once again helped organisations from various industries to embed climate protection into their strategy and effectively integrate it into their day-to-day work. Four examples show how diverse these partnerships can be. 

Working with myclimate, Ebnat AG has empowered specialists and managers to not only think strategically about climate protection, but also to implement it as a shared mission within the company. In a company-wide seminar, management identified areas- of activity and developed specific action plans to steadily advance towards the net zero target. 

Climate protection is also increasingly relevant for the events and culture industry. Together with the Music C•A•R•E•S platform, myclimate supported the development of an emissions calculator that allows organisers to transparently disclose the climate impact of concerts and festivals and introduce specific measures for managing emissions along the entire value chain. 

For a number of years now, myclimate has been helping Liechtensteinische Landesbank AG systematically decarbonise its banking operations. Working from annual greenhouse gas balances, LLB assumes responsibility for its emissions and consistently pursues the goal of achieving net zero by 2040. 

Integra Biosciences is another example of how businesses can implement data-driven climate protection in the long term. This international company works with myclimate to calculate emissions, define science-based climate targets and reduce emissions along the entire value chain.

1700 Amateur Football Clubs Commit to Climate Protection

Football is yet another area affected by climate change. Heatwaves and extreme weather are increasingly impacting training and matches. As the largest mass sport in Germany, football not only has a particular impact, but also a great responsibility and leverage effect. Together with myclimate, the German Football Association has developed a free carbon footprint tool for amateur football clubs. 

The tool enables clubs to systematically record their greenhouse gas emissions, identify key emission sources and derive targeted climate protection measures. This makes climate protection tangible and comprehensible for thousands of volunteers in their day-to-day work. Numerous amateur clubs are already using the program to take responsibility and integrate climate protection into football – in practical, low-threshold, impact-oriented steps.

Food security and emissions reduction

Sustainable Agriculture at the Migros Group

The Migros Group and myclimate have been working together for several years to promote climate protection throughout the value chain in a targeted manner. The Migros Group’s sustainability strategy, which includes science-based climate targets (SBTi), covers its entire, diverse portfolio and addresses emissions across all business areas. As a retailer with complex supply chains, Migros takes responsibility beyond its own operations, specifically targeting emissions generated along the upstream value chain. Together with Migros, myclimate has developed projects that promote climate-adapted agriculture, strengthen the resilience of producers, and contribute to food security in Switzerland and within international supply chains. The focus is not only on reducing emissions, but also on creating fair conditions and long-term prospects for agricultural businesses. We spoke to Claudia Regenass, Head of Business Services in the Sustainability & Economic Policy Department at the Migros Group, to find out why agriculture plays such a central role in the group-wide sustainability strategy.

Climate Protection Projects

Making an impact

More than 240 Climate Protection Projects Worldwide

myclimate has developed and supported more than 240 projects in 48 countries around the world since it was established in 2002. Some of them are already complete. The projects cover key technology areas including renewable energy (solar, wind, hydropower, biogas and biomass), energy efficiency (including efficient cookstoves), waste and recycling (waste management and compost), sustainable land use and forest conservation (including biochar), water (purifying and conserving) and climate-friendly transport. Through their co-benefits, these projects also contribute to achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

myclimate develops climate protection projects both domestically and internationally, combining local impact with innovative solutions. In 2025, for example, a biochar project in Colombia was added to the portfolio for the first time. This project sequesters CO₂ in the soil over the long term while also improving the livelihoods of coffee farmers. The first project involving biogenic construction materials in the building sector also opened up new avenues for long-term CO₂ storage in the DACH region. 

In addition to projects for the voluntary market, myclimate also develops projects for mandatory markets, which includes markets governed by Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, as well as company-specific projects that address the value chain, among other areas. 

International and regional projects

Advancing Climate Protection Worldwide

Effective climate protection requires a variety of solutions, adapted to local conditions and supported by strong partnerships. In addition to numerous projects in the Global South, myclimate is also committed to climate protection in Europe, with measurable impact. Nature-based, technologically innovative climate protection that works in harmony with the climate, people and the environment can have an impact worldwide – as these four projects show. 

In Colombia, an innovative biochar project binds carbon in the soil over the long term and at the same time improves the livelihoods of coffee farmers. Converting offcuts from coffee cultivation into biochar permanently removes emissions, makes soil more fertile and increases resilience to climate risks. 

In the South Pacific, indigenous communities in the Solomon Islands protect their rainforests from commercial deforestation. This project conserves valuable ecosystems and biodiversity, reduces emissions and boosts the economic and social self-determination of the local population with a particular focus on women’s participation. 

New opportunities for climate protection are also opening up in the building sector. By using biogenic construction materials such as timber, hemp and straw, buildings in Switzerland, Germany and Austria actively help remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. 

In Uganda, a drinking water project is improving access to clean water for thousands of people. Solar water disinfection reduces disease, cuts consumption of firewood and prevents emissions – with positive effects on health, the environment and the climate. 

Forests as climate protectors

Why is This Carbon Sink Important?

Forests play a key role in regulating our CO₂ emissions, as they store carbon in their biomass and thus act as an important sink. But climate change is changing environmental conditions. Heat, forest fires, storms and pests threaten to turn forests from carbon sinks into sources of CO₂. myclimate therefore relies on nature-based projects to secure and, ideally, increase the sink capacity of forests. With targeted measures such as forest protection, sustainable forest management and the promotion of natural forest reserves, we are strengthening the resilience and resistance to climate change of existing forests – and thus making an important contribution to climate protection. Our commentary on why technical solutions such as direct air capture (DAC) should not replace nature-based initiatives, but rather complement them.

Education

Together towards net zero

Effectively Shaping Climate Education

Climate education remains the key if we want to effectively shape the path to net zero. Our ambition is clear: we don’t want young people to just talk about climate protection. We want to empower them to recognise their creative freedom and take action – at school, in vocational training and in their future careers. 

In 2025, we further consolidated and systemically embedded climate expertise. In vocational training, apprentices develop practical projects with direct impact under myclimate’s ‘Skills for Future’ campaign. Regional initiatives such as the Zukunftswerkstatt (Future Workshop) and the net zero pilot district create real-life learning spaces for the transformation to net zero. 

The Young Climathon empowers young people to collaborate on innovative solutions to local climate challenges and to put their ideas into practice. 

The Education Report Switzerland 2025 shows the impact of climate education and how collaboration is becoming a success factor.

Tourismus

myclimate “Cause We Care” at the ITB

ITB Berlin is the key meeting place for the international tourism industry. myclimate was there again in 2025 to highlight sustainable solutions and to honour companies that are showing the way forward in climate protection. The myclimate Awards recognised partners who strategically embed climate protection in tourism, while myclimate also showcased developments in its “Cause We Care” programme. 

The impact of climate change on German tourist destinations is increasing. Businesses and regions face the major challenge of advancing climate protection and adapting. In our interview, myclimate industry expert Benno von der Dovenmühle explains the efficient opportunities available to tourism operators, and how they can get more actors to share the costs of much-needed investments. 

Climate Conference 2025 COP 30

Article 6 gains Momentum – and with it the Responsibility of the Private Sector

The climate conference in Belém was one thing above all: a ‘working COP’. COP 29 in Baku had already taken care of the big decisions on the implementation of the Paris Agreement. In Belém, it was a matter of fleshing out and implementing existing mechanisms. myclimate was also represented there. For two weeks, our delegation followed the negotiations and held talks with many country representatives, in particular to explore possibilities for international cooperation surrounding Article 6. We’ve put together the most important information for you in a concise summary.

People who are Passionately Committed to Climate Protection

In our Climate Talk interview series, we talk to people who are passionate about climate protection and who inspire us to think differently.  

Maren Urner is a Professor for Neuroscience; here she tells us why knowledge alone does not lead to action and why many people underestimate the climate crisis. She shows how self-efficacy and constructive communication can give people a renewed sense of agency.  

Katja Diehl is committed to sustainable mobility and genuine transformation in the transport sector. She explains that mobility is above all a question of justice and that change only succeeds when we focus on people.  

Dirk Kannacher heads the GLS Bank and shows how business can be socially responsible. He advocates an economic system that prioritises meaning over profit to become more stable and fairer in the long term.  

As CEO of the European Outdoor Group, Christian Schneidermeier advocates for sustainability in the outdoor sector. As he stresses, true transformation only happens when we consider materials, processes and business models holistically and drive change along the entire supply chain.
