With the development and use of more efficient aircraft that consume less jet fuel, research into new engine technologies, alternative sustainable fuels (Sustainable Aviation Fuels, SAF), better planning of air routes and the intra-industry climate programme CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme of International Aviation), the airline industry is taking various approaches to continually reduce its climate impact.

By partnering with Lufthansa and Swiss, myclimate was able to gain two more major allies for more climate protection. Both airlines are now offering their passengers the option to calculate the emissions of their air travel and make an equivalent voluntary climate protection contribution.
The airline Edelweiss has paved the way. Since June 2019, passengers have been able to calculate their individual carbon footprint during the booking process and then select a voluntary climate protection contribution with a simple click.
A calculation platform was created for Swiss with which the CO2 emissions associated with air travel can be calculated and an equivalent voluntary climate protection contribution can be made. These contributions support certified climate protection projects with the highest quality standards.
